Breaking Dawn

We have all (foolishly) decided at work to go to the midnight screening of Breaking Dawn Part 1.

We really must be mad as we still have to get to work tomorrow!!

I decided to make some cupcakes to celebrate the release of this film.

Now if you are a fan of these films you will be either for Team Edward or Team Jacob. I personally prefer Jacob.

11/11/11 Wear with pride

Last year I made some poppies for the family.

They are reusable but a donation must be made every year to the Poppy Appeal.

Please wear your poppy with pride.

Pumpkin - spooky time.

Something eerie - well this picture of Little Miss is definitely that.

Black cat - from the buildings round York.

A river - we sat down and had a lovely picnic here.

Heritage - walking round the walls in the City of York, so much heritage here.

Graffiti/street art - we see this everyday on the way to school, and I love it.

Witches hat/broomstick - our wonderful witch that visits every Halloween.

Missing this month:

Fog/mist - didn't see any

Looking forward to next months list.

30 Day Declutter

I am going to be following (and joining in with) the wonderful Thrifty Mrs and her 30 Day Declutter.

The idea is to get rid of 90 items in 30 days. So by 30th November 2011 there will be 90 less items in my home. Well that is so long as I don't then bring in 90 items!!

So I will be adding a bit extra to this. Yes I will be getting rid of 90 items. But also I will not be bringing in any extra items (apart from food, groceries and Christmas presents for other people).

That way I should see the results.

I will keep things updated on here once a week.

So here goes.

1. Old pair trainers belonging to Little Miss (too small).

Wonderful, historical, beautiful York.

How I love the city of York. The history and atmosphere in this place is just magic to me. Just before it was time to go back to school in September we decided to go away for a weekend break there. Train tickets booked we decided to stay at the youth hostel there.

After we dropped off our bags at the youth hostel we walked along the river and into the city. We had a lovely walk around taking in all the sights and planning our days.

The Railway Museum, we spent all morning wandering around here. It was very strange as we were some of the first into the museum , and in some areas we were the only people around.

We visited the Minster and had afternoon tea at Betty's.

A visit to The Castle Museum. This has to be one of my favourite museums, so much to see and so fascinating.

A final walk around the city walls. Then having a go at making mosaics.

We also managed to fit in two visits to the Jorvik centre as Little Miss thought it was so good.

One of the best things is the museums we visited we can re-visit as many times as we want in the next year.

I think this means we have to plan another visit...not that I will be complaining.

Recent charity and car boot hunts

In the last couple of months we have managed to find some great bargains. Mainly at car boots sales as the charity shops seem to have put up all their prices again!

I know they are raising money for very worthy causes but it does annoy me when you see certain charity shops selling things for more than you can buy them new.

A lovely little cupboard that is currently being transformed into a bedside table. An old puzzle, scrabble and some lovely material.

A beautiful little table with lift up lid, waiting to be transformed. An old map book and a silver jubilee tin. The tin now holds my washing tablets so much better than those plastic boxes.

But this tin is a prime example of bad pricing in the charity shops. I had previously seen this in the charity shop for £3.50. They had not managed to sell it so it was relegated to the box outside the front of the shop with a sign asking for a 10p donation! Well I snapped it up and gave them a lot more than the 10p they were asking for.

I have been after a larger Fred for ages, he matches my little cruet Fred's. Pretty china, more material, a cute little basket and my marvellous old little set of steps.

I was looking for a step ladder and had seen the modern ones in the shops, all plastic and metal. Then at the boot fair the other week I saw this lovely set of ladders. I wandered over and asked how much. One pound! Well that money left my purse so quick it was unbelievable.

Caterham Vintage & Art Fair

Following on from this post, about the Caterham Vintage & Art Fair, we had a great time when we visited it.

Money was a bit short on the day but I found this for my lovely Little Miss.

I also fell in love with the gorgeous items on Suzie Sharp's stall.

Some of the other stalls that were there included Katy Lou, Stag & Bow and Little Toucan.

We are looking forward to the next fair on 17th December 2011, and saving our money up for it.

Friendship

Sometimes friendship can be very surprising. I have a very special friend who's birthday present this was.

If you had spoken to me 5 years ago and said that we would be friends I wouldn't of believed you.

But in that time we have been through some very tough times and have been there for each other.

Our friendship is an unexpected pleasure, and is so cherished.

Wonderful Weekend At Dawlish

Start of the summer holidays and we went away with my mum for a lovely long weekend at Dawlish.

As usual our train journey started out with sandwiches. We have a family tradition of taking marmalade sandwiches and bacon sandwiches for on the train.

Dawlish is a beautiful place and was were my Mum and Dad had their honeymoon in 1970. We know Dad was with us on holiday in spirit and was watching us all enjoy ourselves.

The weekend was made up of fantastic views as we walked around Dawlish and headed into Teignmouth.

So loved the ladybirds, I can remember going on these when I was younger.

We also had great eats.

Oh we do love pasties and cream teas. With a cream tea do you have it the Cornish (jam then cream) or the Devon (cream then jam) way?

We had a lovely wander around Exeter and had a visit to the cathedral.

These two stained glass windows were a lovely surprise on the top floor of one of the shops.

Dawlish is well know for an unusual type of bird.

Black swans, we were very lucky and saw cygnets as well.

We all had a wonderful time in Dawlish and will be revisiting again.

Naughty, naughty me...

...oh I have been naughty. What is wrong with me? Why haven't I been blogging? What is going on?

Well I'm not to sure but I think I lost my way a bit and could not get myself motivated. This was in more than one area of my life, not just to do with blogging. Don't know why it happened,  but I am back on track. Lots to catch up on first. Lots I want to show and lots I want to do.

I am so glad you are still following me and have not given up on me.

Thank you.

This month part 3 - Charity finds (oh and car boot finds)

Well we have had plenty of trips out over the last month or so and this means new charity shops to check out.

The absolute bargain was this chest of drawers. This was in a local charity shop that I don't usually do because they are so expensive. Little Miss wanted to go in as she wanted to see if they had a certain book she was after. We went in and she headed to the books while I wandered around. The chest of drawers was in the middle of the shop. It was the perfect height for what I wanted but had no price on it. The manager could see that I was interested in it and said I should buy it if I liked it. I said I would if it was a good price. He said it was £5! Well that money was out of my purse so quick. Then it was getting the chest of drawers back home! I really should think about that before I buy these bargains.

I've been wanting a celery pot for ages and this man was perfect.

All of these lovely plates and dishes have been added to my collection.

I hope that you have all had good finds recently.
